Sources close to ROCKWORLDEAST have confirmed that negotiations are well underway to bring Virgin Festival 2009 to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in summer of 2009. Citing a contact within the promotion company, our sources claim that final details are being explored before confirming the event for an August or September 2009 date.
Headlining the Halifax version of the tour will be Seattle survivors Stone Temple Pilots featuring the unquenchable Scott Weiland. The musical forces behind STP, the DeLeo brothers, are reportedly finished writing the band's sixth record with a release slated for early 2010.
Other acts rumored to be appearing on various Virgin Festival 2009 stages include: Muse, Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Metallica and....gasp....Beastie Boys!!!
Fans have criticized Virgin Mobile in the past for altering the festival's lineup after fans have already purchased tickets. As well, the timing of the stages has been a cause of complaint for some attendees. In an example cited on Wikipedia, at the 2007 Virgin Festival in Baltimore, The Smashing Pumpkins were scheduled to be on-stage during the same time block as 311. Similarly, The Police were put on-stage during the same time block as Modest Mouse.
Stay tuned as ROCKWORLDEAST staff work to confirm and expand this report. As well, read an upcoming blog about last year's Citadel Hill Music Festival controversy that may have prompted Virgin Mobile to bring the festival to Halifax in 2009!
